Young Artist Competition

The Sinfonia’s holds an annual Young Artist Competition for string musicians up to age 19. Held every spring, the contest attracts residents of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Both the Junior and Senior Division winners are awarded solo appearances with the Minnesota Sinfonia, and the Senior Division winner receives The Claire Givens Violins $500 cash prize.

2015 Holiday Concert-46aThe 2017 Young Artist Competition will take place at Brady Educational Center on the St. Thomas University campus on Sunday, April 2, 2017.  The competition was not open to the public, and the winners will perform at upcoming Sinfonia concerts.

2017 Competition Information

April 2, 2017

Competition for Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass players up to age 19.  Entrants are restricted to Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.  Previous winners are not allowed to win the same division a second time.

Junior Division | Up to age 14 (birthdate on or after 1/1/03)

  • All repertoire is acceptable
  • Junior Division winner will perform with the Sinfonia at an upcoming concert

Senior Division | Up to age 19 (birthdate on or after 1/1/98)

  • Choose from the approved repertoire (Additional repertoire may be acceptable, please inquire)
  • First Place Prize: $500 Claire Givins Violins Prize and a solo performance with the Sinfonia
