A DJ with a strong background in classical music, DJ Inform has been steeped in music since his first days. Pushed from an early age to play piano, he decided at 16 to respectfully put that aside to focus on the art of turntablism and DJ’ing (this, for people that may be unfamiliar, involves manipulating a record on a turntable in different patterns and rhythms, allowing the turntable to be used as a rhythm instrument).
Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, a city that is known as an underground hotbed for producing quality Jazz, Hip Hop, and Rock music, as well as having a good symphony orchestra, he has been influenced by all of this, but has been especially drawn to the Hip Hop and Jazz side, and has since moved far outside Columbus, touring the country multiple times and sharing the stage with some of Hip-Hop’s largest acts, such as Talib Kweli and Minneapolis favorite Brother Ali. He released his debut solo album, “The Cutting Room,” in 2010 to critical acclaim, making it onto Thetablist.net top 10 best of 2010, and launching the album with a release show that featured other highly respected Hip Hop acts, Blueprint and Prince Paul (of De La Soul). This instrumental album featured turntable scratching as the featured instrument, but also introduced DJ Inform as a producer, an area he has been working on with the same practice ethic instilled in him since his piano days.
In addition to his Hip Hop DJ and production work, DJ Inform also plays frequently with different Jazz musicians, collaborating with an array of talented players out of Columbus and New Orleans, Louisiana. It is here that he can use his turntable as an instrument the most, as he is just another player in the band, and he gets to express his versatility on the instrument. This performance marks the first time DJ Inform will be playing with a full orchestra, and it is sure to be an exciting and mesmerizing experience.
