Camilla Heller, Principal Cello

Cellist Camilla Heller has long been active in the Twin Cities as a concerto soloist, recitalist, and player of orchestral and chamber music. For twenty-five years she performed with the Macalester trio, playing in Minnesota and across the nation, including concerts at the Library of Congress in Washington DC. With the “Mac Trio,” she recorded more than a dozen piano trios and commissioned works by Paul Fetler and Gunther Schuller. One set of recordings in particular, The Vox Box of Women Composers, has been played on radio stations around the world. During her career, Camilla has been principal cellist with the Minnesota Sinfonia, the Minneapolis Chamber Symphony, the Minnesota Opera, the Center Opera, the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra and the Plymouth Music Series. She has also been in demand as a continuo player and as a recording studio artist.

Heller’s teaching credentials are also very impressive – she has held cello instruction positions at the University of Minnesota, Mankato State, Gustavus Adolfus and Macalester College, and maintains a very vibrant private teaching studio. Before moving to Minneapolis, she was a member of the Iowa String Quartet and the Concert Arts Chamber Players, where she and her colleagues co-founded the Bowdoin Festival in Maine.

Currently, Heller lives in Minneapolis, holds the position of principal cellist with the Sinfonia, and shares living space with two Siamese cats – Gianni Kiki, and Mimi Mieux. Her hobbies include zone gardening, movies, murder mysteries and household repair, 101.
